Long Bio

Indie-folk, Singer-Songwriter duo, The Graes, are CJ and Cassie Grae. Based out of Wilmington, NC, the married duo crafts melodic stories of the depths of life and the people they love. The Graes are commonly noted for their complimenting voices, euphonious harmonies, and effortless ability to captivate an audience, making each performance unforgettable.

Having experienced the true authenticity and vulnerability found simply in a song, The Graes aim to create music that connects with their listeners in ways that conversation can't.  "We write about life - the good, the bad, the ugly - it's how we process, heal, and reset."

Pulling inspiration from artists like Penny and Sparrow and The Civil Wars, the duo has set their sights high. Collaborating with well-known producers and songwriters like Forever the Sickest Kid's Austin Bello and LA producer Ron Geffen, The Graes are continually releasing new music and are eager to perform in a city near you!

“Beautifully written, the song, while acoustic, offers us superb vocal harmonies, and a sweet melody worthy of the best lullabies. A real folk gem that we didn't want to miss! In short, in these festive times, when we are not sure of being able to meet again and enjoy moments together, a little happiness and magic are welcome. Thank you The Graes for this delicate moment!”

“‘Deep’ is a single which firmly puts The Graes as a band to watch in 2022. They are a duo on the rise, and we can not wait to hear what they will do next.”

“With sticky-sweet lyrics such as “I know we’ve got issues, but I like them too”, The husband and wife folk-pop duo brought realism into the romantic narrative without ever bursting the affectionate bubble. At this point, we shouldn’t need to tell you that the single comes charged with commercial and earworm potential. If any song is going to convince you to accept your other half’s idiosyncrasies, it’s this infectiously honest release.”

“My name is Reagan and I feel like this was for me I’ve been going through a lot lately and my mermaid friend who is friends with you sent me this and she told me it was meant for me. You perfectly described me and what I’m going through. I love it.”

Live Shows

The Graes have a plethora of live show experience both as openers/support and headliners.

In terms of ticket sales, The Graes have played sold out shows at Live at Ted's as the headliner and Bourgie Nights as the opener, both in Wilmington, NC. They provided the majority of ticket sales for the Live At Ted's show since the opener, Jaron Strom (The Voice), was from out of town. Live at Ted's has a capacity of a little under 65 people. For Bourgie Nights The Graes opened for Carlos Rising from The Voice and with a capacity of 150 people they provided between 25-40 of the ticket sales. They have a decent pull in the Coastal Carolina area and depending on the venue and amount of time given to promote, can usually guarantee between 50-75 ticket sales as an opener.

The Graes are fairly new to Wilmington, NC and have spent a lot of time playing local breweries, bars, and restaurants to gain exposure. The goal for 2025 is to play more shows and make more connections to continue to grow their reach in this area to provide travelling bands a solid base of support when coming through Wilmington, NC.

In addition to these local venues, The Graes played The Evening Muse in Charlotte, NC as the featured artist to a sold out crowd. They were also invited out to Waco, TX to play at Chip and Joanna Gaines' festival, Silobration, at Magnolia where They opened for Johnnyswim. They’ve also played 8 sold-out Sofar Sounds shows in Raleigh/Durham, Charlotte, Charleston, Greenville, and New York City.
